'Applied for H-1B eight times, never selected in lottery': NRI man says he's trying to move back to India

A 35-year-old NRI put out a post, narrating his struggle in the US, the country where he came to study almost 11 years ago, but now he wants to move back to India, as he says he never got lucky enough to be picked by the H-1B lottery ever. Sai, the man, said he did not get married because no one wants their daughters to marry someone who does not have a stable visa status. And now he is trying to move back to India. In his post, Sai said he completed his master’s degree, followed it with another master’s and then pursued a PHD in the US. “I worked hard, followed the rules, and tried to build a stable life, unfortunately, despite applying for the H1b visa almost eight times, I was never selected even once in the lottery, because of this uncertainty, my life kept getting stuck, I lost jobs, had to step back again and again, and lived in constant fear about my future,” he wrote.

“Because of my visa situation, I never got married, there were no matches, people were not willing to marry someone without a stable visa status, while people my age got married, bought houses, and had children, I stayed behind — not by choice, but because of circumstances I couldn’t control, the hardest part was explaining all this to my parents, theyt couldn’t fully understand my situation, they would compare my life with others my age and ask why I hadn’t settled down yet, it hurt deeply, but I stayed silent most of the time,” the person wrote adding that the only reason he was sharing his story is because there are others like him in the US, people who try their best but their NRI life is full of failure, struggle, silence and survival.
