Upcoming new mid-size SUV launches in 2026 you should know about

If you’re looking to purchase a new mid-size SUV, it might be wise to hold off for a bit. Even though models like the Tata Sierra, the new Kia Seltos and the Mahindra XUV 7XO have already arrived, several major launches are still on the way. You can expect a wider and more competitive set of choices in the coming months with more new options entering the segment soon. Here’s a quick look at some of the models that are set to launch soon. These include all-new models, facelifts, electric vehicles and more.

Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara

One of the most talked-about launches is the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. This will be Maruti’s first mass-market electric SUV and is built on the new Heartect-e platform. Inspired by the eVX concept, the e-Vitara gets a muscular design and an all-new cabin layout. Inside, it features floating dual screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment, a gloss-black centre console with drive controls and wireless charging, along with modern touches such as a two-spoke steering wheel and leatherette upholstery. Safety highlights include Level 2 ADAS and seven airbags. The e-Vitara will be offered with 49 kWh and 61 kWh battery options, with the larger pack delivering a claimed range of up to 543 km.

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

Closely linked to the e-Vitara is Toyota’s Urban Cruiser EV, which will be making its debut today. Toyota’s first mass-market electric SUV for India shares its platform and core components with the Maruti e-Vitara but gets distinct Toyota styling. While the overall silhouette remains similar, the Urban Cruiser EV features a refreshed front design, Toyota-specific grille treatment, black cladding and aerodynamic alloy wheels. It measures 4,285 mm in length and rides on a 2,700 mm wheelbase. Battery options include 49 kWh and 61 kWh packs, with the larger unit expected to offer a range of up to 550 km.

Another major highlight is the return of the Renault Duster, which will make its debut on January 26, 2026, after a four-year gap. The new-generation Duster gets a fresh design inspired by the Bigster concept and a much more premium cabin than before. Key features include a 10.1-inch touchscreen, a 7-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, automatic climate control, a six-speaker Arkamys 3D audio system and ventilated front seats. Globally, the SUV is offered with multiple powertrains, including a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid, a 1.0-litre turbo bi-fuel engine and a 1.6-litre strong hybrid setup with two electric motors and a 1.2 kWh battery.

Nissan Tekton

Nissan Tekton

Sharing its platform with the new Duster is Nissan’s upcoming Tekton, which is expected to be unveiled in February 2026, followed by a launch by mid-2026. The Tekton features a clean yet futuristic design with an edge-to-edge grille, slim LED headlamps, a full-width LED light strip with C-shaped signatures and a matching connected LED setup at the rear, where the Tekton nameplate is prominently displayed on both the tailgate and the hood. While interior details are yet to be revealed, the SUV is expected to offer a large touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, digital driver display, wireless charging, ventilated front seats and a 360-degree camera. Skoda Kushaq facelift

Facelifts will also play a big role in the upcoming launch calendar. Skoda Auto India will unveil the 2026 Kushaq facelift on January 20, marking the SUV’s first major update since its launch in 2021. The refreshed Kushaq is expected to feature sharper LED lighting with a new DRL signature, a revised grille, updated bumpers, new alloy wheels and fresh colour options, while retaining its familiar shape. Inside, improvements are likely to include better materials, a larger touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS. Engine options are expected to remain unchanged, with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol producing 115 hp and 175 Nm, and the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol delivering 150 hp and 250 Nm, though minor suspension and transmission updates could be introduced.

Volkswagen Taigun facelift

Following the Kushaq, its sibling, the Volkswagen Taigun, is also expected to receive a mid-cycle update. It is also expected to feature refreshed exterior and interior elements, along with new features such as ADAS, a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera. The Taigun is likely to continue with its existing 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines.
