LUCKNOW: A judge of Allahabad HC’s Lucknow bench on Tuesday recorded his inability to dictate a verdict in court after hearing 30 cases till 7pm. “Since I am feeling hungry, tired, and physically incapacitated to dictate the judgment, the verdict is reserved,” he said at the end of the long day.As many as 235 cases, including 92 fresh cases, 101 regular matters, 39 fresh miscellaneous applications and three matters in the additional list were listed for hearing before Justice Subhash Vidyarthi on Tuesday. However, the judge could hear only 29 fresh cases till 4.15pm. When he was informed that the next case was remanded by Supreme Court, Justice Vidyarthi began a hearing that continued till 7pm.
The case relates to a petition filed in 2025 against a debt recovery tribunal (DRT). The HC had in May 2025 set aside the DRT order and directed it to decide the matter afresh. This HC order was challenged in Supreme Court which, on Aug 25 last year, set it aside on the grounds that the respondent was not heard. SC had also asked the HC to decide the petition afresh expeditiously, preferably within six months, a period expiring on Tuesday.After a marathon hearing of the matter, in which senior advocates Anuj Kudesia for the petitioner, Sudeep Kumar for the respondents, and PK Srivastava for Canara Bank, argued at length, the judge said he was completely exhausted, and not in any position to dictate the judgment.
