OP Jindal professor faces semester suspension after comparing PM Modi with Hitler

An associate professor at OP Jindal Global University has been suspended for one semester following a complaint alleging that the faculty member compared Prime Minister Narendra Modi with Adolf Hitler. The complaint was filed before the Haryana Human Rights Commission by Vishav Bajaj, father of first year undergraduate student Vikhyaat Bajaj.According to PTI, the father alleged that his son had been subjected to “continuous harassment, humiliation and discriminatory conduct”, which affected his mental well-being and academic performance. In his complaint filed in November last year, Vishav Bajaj stated that on October 31, 2025, his son wrote an essay on ‘URI: The Surgical Strike’. He claimed that the essay was not appreciated by some teachers at the university. He further alleged that on November 3, his son was harassed during a class. The complaint also referred to remarks made on November 7 during a course titled ‘Politics of Representation’, which was taught by the associate professor. The father alleged that the remarks were “politically derogatory, inflammatory and deeply disturbing in nature”.He claimed that these included “comparisons of the Prime Minister to Adolf Hitler, and characterisation of national security operations as mere gimmicks and branding exercises”, PTI reports.Vishav Bajaj alleged that since his son had earlier praised the Government of India, the prime minister and the Indian Army, certain professors began targeting him. He stated that his son was publicly humiliated in class over the Uri essay and was failed in the subject. After Vikhyaat Bajaj submitted a written complaint to the university’s vice chancellor, an inquiry was conducted by the executive dean. According to the complaint, the dean found that failing the student was unjustified. The university later revised the result and passed Vikhyaat Bajaj in the internal assessments. In his submission before the Commission, the father stated that the episode led to resentment among some professors. He said his son is “suffering from mental and physical distress” and is living under “constant fear of retaliation, academic failure and institutional victimisation”, PTI reportsMeanwhile, the university’s chief communications officer Anjoo Mohun said, “As per the law, the matter is being heard by the HHRC and we are complying with their request. We are fully cooperating and complying with its directives as required”, PTI quoted. The matter is currently being heard by the Haryana Human Rights Commission. The university has said it is cooperating with the proceedings.(with PTI inputs)
