UPSC CSE application 2026: The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) will close the registrations for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2026 and the Indian Forest Service (IFS) examination on the official portal, upsc.gov.in at 6:00 PM. The notification for both examinations was released on February 4, 2026, and the online application process began the same day at upsconline.nic.in. With the deadline now hours away, candidates have been advised to complete the process well before the cut-off time to avoid last-minute technical glitches.’According to the official notification, the Civil Services Examination 2026 aims to fill 933 vacancies under the Central Government. Recruitment for both Civil Services and the Indian Forest Service will be conducted through the preliminary examination.The preliminary examination is scheduled for May 24, 2026. Candidates who qualify will appear for the Main examination from August 21, 2026.

UPSC recruitment 2026: Application fee and eligibility

As per the notification, candidates from the General, OBC, and EWS categories are required to pay an application fee of Rs 100. Candidates from SC, ST, and female categories are also required to pay Rs 100. Persons with Disabilities (PH/PWD) are exempted from paying the fee. The fee must be paid online only.To be eligible, candidates must hold a graduate degree from a recognised university. The age limit is 21 to 32 years, with relaxation applicable to reserved categories as per Government rules.

UPSC exam 2026: Selection process

The selection process will be conducted in five stages:

  • Preliminary examination
  • Main examination
  • Interview
  • Document verification
  • Medical examination

Eligible candidates will be issued an e-Admit Card on the last working day of the week preceding the examination. Those opting to change their scribe seven days before the exam will receive their e-Admit Card three days prior to the examination date. Admit cards will be available only on the official website.
