As Ramadan commences, the UAE has announced a nationwide prisoner release, with 1,440 inmates set to leave correctional institutions following a directive from the President. The move also includes the settlement of financial penalties linked to their sentences. President His Highness Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has ordered the release of 1,440 inmates from correctional institutions across the country. The prisoners were sentenced in various cases. Alongside the release order, Sheikh Mohamed has undertaken to settle the financial obligations incurred by them in the implementation of those sentences. The initiative comes in observance of the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. It is aimed at offering inmates the opportunity to begin a new chapter in their lives, while easing the hardship faced by their families and supporting their stability during the holy month. Such releases are commonly announced by UAE leaders on special occasions and religious holidays. In Ajman, Humaid bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Ajman, has ordered the release of 134 inmates from correctional and penal institutions in the emirate. Separately, in Fujairah, Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, has directed the release of 125 inmates from punitive and correctional institutions. The prisoners in Fujairah are of various nationalities and were selected based on good conduct and behaviour.
