'Followers fix my salary': Shiva Shah Ra makes emotional plea to fans, exposes Kollywood’s new casting reality
Character actor Shiva Shah Ra emotionally revealed how Instagram follower counts dictate film salaries, impacting his career despite proven talent. The actor, known for roles in ‘Maanagaram’ and ‘Meesaya Murukku,’ shared his struggle with a lack of social media appeal, prompting a wave of fan support and discussions on industry pressures.

Shiva Shah Ra, the famous character actor and YouTube star, is known for his impeccable comic timing, histrionics, and versatile roles. Over the years, he has appeared in movies like ‘Maanagaram’, ‘Meesaya Murukku’, and ‘Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu’ and has almost become a household name with his fans in Tamil Nadu.

Viral Instagram video highlights salary struggle

Recently, Shiva Shah Ra posted an emotional video on Instagram, venting about how remuneration is fixed in the film industry. He said, “It’s already 4 AM, and I can’t sleep. When you are being hired, everybody asks what number of Instagram followers you have to understand how much you are valued. I don’t stand a chance of gaining Instagram followers. I have a beard that will disguise my face, I have no hair, and I cannot make reels. The touching video gained millions of views and shares in no time, given the realities of supporting actors in a numbers-oriented social media industry.

Journey from YouTube to films

Shiva Shah Ra rose to prominence through his Temple Monkeys YouTube channel, before altering his name from Shiv Saravanan to create a unique film identity. He dazzled viewers in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ‘Maanagaram’ before pulling off a series of iconic roles in ‘Meesaya Murukku,’ ‘Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuthu,’ and various supporting and comic roles in ‘Naan Sirithal,’ ‘Comali,’ and ‘Super Dooper,’ among many others. However, despite his obvious capabilities and fans’ adoration for his work, he admitted that in recent years, roles have become restricted to low-budget productions.

Fans react and rally in support

In the video, Shiva Shah Ra also asked fans for ideas on increasing his Instagram followers, mixing humor with his honest frustration. Fans flocked to the comment section and appreciated his honesty, sparking a discussion about the challenges actors face when their social media popularity surpasses their actual talent. The clip resonated with avid viewers, and it went viral, making him a person they could understand and relate to while coping with the pressure of today’s showbiz.
