Netizens slammed the makers for associating a certain caste and community with corruption and bribery in the movie’s name. Petitions were filed in the Delhi HC, and legal notices were sent to the streaming giant over the same. And according to the latest development, the film will be renamed. Let’s learn more about it.

‘Ghooskhor Pandat’ title will be changed after backlash

According to The Telegraph report, the Manoj Bajpayee starrer will be renamed. Netflix India informed the Delhi High Court on Tuesday. As per the advocate representing the streaming giant, all the promotional content of the movie has been removed as well. The report further stated that the OTT platform made a statement during the hearing of a petition that sought a stay on its release in the wake of its offensive title, before Justice Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav.As per the streaming platform, the makers of the film have decided to rename it considering the issues raised by the masses. The counsel told the court that the film’s title resulted in “unintended interruptions,” and the makers have not incorporated anything that would malign any community in the film.After the streamer presented its side before the court, the hearing was closed, observing that “nothing more was required to be adjudicated.”The petition was filed by Mahender Chaturvedi, an acharya, who alleged that the title of the film was “defamatory” and “offensive.” In his petition, he claimed that the title was an attack on the reputation and dignity of Brahmins.

Presented by Neeraj Pandey and directed by Ritesh Shah, the film features Manoj Bajpayee, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Shraddha Das, Divya Dutta, Akshay Oberoi, Saqib Saleem, Kiku Sharda, and Priyanka Bajaj Sibal. The OTT premiere date of the film is yet to be announced.
