What’s new in NEET UG 2026: Aadhaar-based eKYC, live photo capture and changes every applicant must note
NEET UG 2026 brings Aadhaar eKYC and live photo verification to application process

The National Testing Agency (NTA), as expected, has introduced NEET (UG) 2026 registrations, and along with it, has also brought on a message of a more rigorous verification process, sophisticated technology, and fewer loopholes in the system. The examination scheme and date are quite similar to previous years, but the registrations have been changed significantly. Look here to understand it better before you click on the “Submit” button.Aadhaar-based eKYC: The Centre StageThe greatest change this year is the addition of Aadhaar-based eKYC for identity authentication. For the first time, students applying to NEET will be identified electronically using the Aadhaar system during the application process. This particular step is obviously designed to sanitize the process of examinations and enhance the integrity of the results. The idea is to authenticate the application process by matching it to a verified Aadhaar identity. The aim, therefore, is to end the problems of impersonation and duplication that have plagued the conduct of examinations and tests on a massive scale. For students, the message is quite clear: “Ensure your Aadhaar details are accurate and accessible at the time of application.”

Live photo capture: No shortcuts anymore

Another major change relates to the live photograph capture-mandatory requirement during online form submission. Rather than uploading a pre-clicked image from studio or phone gallery, candidates would have to allow the system to capture their photograph in real time. The captured live photo would then get automatically matched with the Aadhaar photograph. In case the system raises a discrepancy, the candidate has to upload a valid supporting certificate for the change. The message from NTA is loud- no blurred images, no outdated photos, and no casual uploads.

Smarter city and language allocation

Selection of examination city and medium has also been made more streamlined this year. Examination city and language choice shall be strictly in line with the candidate’s present and permanent address mentioned in the application form. This move is likely to reduce arbitrary city selections and logistical mismatches besides ensuring fair regional distribution of candidates across centres and languages.Accuracy in address details is now more than ever important for aspirants.

Same exam, tighter checks

Although the examination pattern, duration, and syllabus remain the same as before, the application process heralds the shift. NEET UG 2026 appears to follow the technology trend in verification and real-time authentications, in-line with the Government’s initiative towards transparent examinations. These changes, while potentially inconvenient, are intended to safeguard legitimate candidates and ultimately guarantee victory on merit rather than other factors.

Where to apply and get help

Applications for the test can only be submitted online through the official website-http://neet.nta.nic.in. For any query or assistance, the candidates may contact NTA through email at neetug2026@nta.ac.in or through helpline As always, the advice remains timeless: read the instructions carefully, fill the details patiently, and avoid the temptation of waiting till the last day. Precision is the key to preparation during the NEET season.
