Jared Leto swung 'For The Fences' as Skeletor, says Travis Knight
In a thrilling announcement, Director Travis Knight shares insights into Jared Leto’s riveting interpretation of Skeletor in the eagerly awaited ‘Masters of the Universe’ film. Leto brings a captivating mix of menace, wit, and underlying vulnerability to the notorious villain, redefining this beloved character with depth and nuance.

Travis Knight is opening up about the new big-screen take on Skeletor in ‘Masters of the Universe.’ As the live-action feature heads toward its June 5 theatrical release, the filmmaker shared how Jared Leto helped shape the infamous villain, delivering a bold performance that leans into menace, humor, and deep insecurity.

Skeletor reimagined for the big screen

Speaking to Empire, Knight reflected on what made the character endure for decades. “Skeletor was a really interesting villain,” he said. “He looked cool. He was scary. He was funny. He was insecure. And then of course he had this distinctive voice.”Knight did not want a copy of what came before. He wanted something personal. “I wanted someone to craft their own version of that,” he explained. “Jared approached us, because he loves Skeletor and has his own history with the character. He wanted to swing for the fences. And ultimately we landed on something that I’m really happy with. Skeletor’s kind of the embodiment of toxic masculinity.”The comment hints at a more layered enemy for Prince Adam to face, one who reflects emotional fragility as much as brute force.

Jared Leto joins star packed cast

The film features a wide ensemble. Camila Mendes plays Teela, while Alison Brie takes on Evil Lyn. Idris Elba appears as Duncan, also known as Man at Arms. Morena Baccarin portrays the Sorceress. The story follows a young Prince Adam who crash lands on Earth and grows up far from Eternia. Years later, he rediscovers the Power Sword and returns home. There, he must face Skeletor and unlock his past before he can transform into He-Man.With production moving forward and casting in place, Knight’s remarks offer one of the clearest glimpses yet into how the film plans to update a classic rivalry for modern audiences.
