This edition will once again feature 20 teams competing across 55 matches, culminating with the final in Ahmedabad, India, on March 8.A major talking point ahead of the tournament is Pakistan’s decision not to face India, which has sparked significant controversy. Tournament FormatThe structure of the 2026 T20 World Cup mirrors that of the 2024 edition, which was the first to feature 20 teams. In the opening round, the teams are split into four groups of five. Each team plays the others in its group once, with the top two sides from each group progressing to the Super 8 stage. For the Super 8, teams are seeded according to ICC rankings: Group 1 will feature India (X1), Australia (X2), West Indies (X3), and South Africa (X4). Group 2 will include England (Y1), New Zealand (Y2), Pakistan (Y3), and Sri Lanka (Y4). Should a seeded team fail to reach the top two in the first round, the qualifying team replaces them in the Super 8 stage, meaning finishing first or second in the group does not affect the seeding. From the Super 8, the top two teams in each group move to the knockout phase, consisting of semifinals and the final.2026 T20 World Cup GroupsGroup A: India (X1), Namibia, Netherlands, Pakistan (Y3), United States of AmericaGroup B: Australia (X2), Ireland, Oman, Sri Lanka (Y4), ZimbabweGroup C: England (Y1), Italy, Nepal, Scotland, West Indies (X3)Group D: Afghanistan, Canada, New Zealand (Y2), South Africa (X4), United Arab EmiratesMatches Per TeamEvery team is guaranteed at least four matches.
