Ludhiana: After an elderly NRI woman was found dead in the bathroom of a house in Khanna, the police have rounded up many suspects in the case even as it has ruled out robbery angle in the matter.On Sunday morning, 81-year-old Jagpal Kaur was found murdered at her residence in the Nai Abadi area of Khanna.

The Khanna City-II police had later booked unidentified accused for the crime. SSP Khanna Dr Darpan Ahluwalia said they were close to cracking the case. She added that they had rounded up 3-5 suspects in the case and were questioning them.The senior police officer said they had constituted two police teams, including one each from CIA (Crime Investigating Agency) and one from Khanna City-II police station to solve the case. She added that as of now there seemed to be no robbery angle involved in the murder.A police official, on condition of anonymity, said robbery angle had been ruled out as even as the woman was allegedly strangulated, but the accused didn’t take away the gold chain she was wearing. The official added that also till now, no valuable had been found missing from the crime spot.The police official said they had scanned CCTV cameras installed in the area and had been working on human and scientific evidence.Police sources said the deceased had got upper portion of her house in Khanna vacated from the tenant around two months ago. They added that the woman had got the paint job of the house done and was set to return to Canada in April where her daughter and son lived. They added that husband of the woman had died around 4-5 years ago.Local sources said after retirement, the deceased had been living in Canada for several years and had come back to India in Oct 2025. They added that she was living alone in the house. The sources also stated that the incident came to light on Sunday morning when the neighbours noticed a foul smell emanating from the house and immediately informed the police. They added that upon reaching the spot, the police broke open the door and found the woman dead in the bathroom.
