14-year-old girl girl chased, gang-raped near Chennai; one rowdy arrested

CHENNAI: A pair of goons chased, kidnapped and raped a 14-year-old girl after they spotted her riding pillion with 17-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl at an isolated spot near Madurantakam late on Monday evening. The girl then walked through the night to reach the Chengalpet Govt Hospital, 12km to 16km away, by dawn and narrated her ordeal to the doctors.Police have arrested a suspect, ‘Kakka’ Balaji, and are hunting for the other one.Police said the girl’s ordeal began when she and the other teens were riding from Tambaram towards Keelakandai. As they approached the Devathur area, they noticed two men on a motorcycle following them. The suspects, who were drunk, tried to confront the three teens.In a bid to escape, the boy accelerated but lost control of the two-wheeler and they all fell down. As the culprits were closing in, the boy and the 16-year-old girl managed to scramble to their feet, get back on the bike and fled the scene, leaving the injured 14-year-old behind.The two goons caught her and dragged her to a secluded area near the Athivakkam lake near Madurantakam in Chengalpet district. She was gang-raped and left at the spot. She managed to walk to the Chengalpet Govt Hospital. The survivor is undergoing treatment at the hospital, and her condition is reported to be stable.After being alerted by the hospital authorities, the Melmaruvathur All-Women Police Station registered a case and formed four special teams to track down the accused.A senior police official told TOI on Tuesday that ‘Kakka’ Balaji of Thiruverkadu is involved in several criminal cases in Guduvanchery police station limits.
