A realtor was brutally shot dead in broad daylight in Chandigarh

CHANDIGARH: Less than 24 hours after shots were fired inside Panjab University, a realtor was gunned down in the heart of Chandigarh around noon on Wednesday.Hundreds of commuters were driving down the arterial Madhya Marg, and scores were milling about in Sector 9, famous for offices, eateries and gyms, when a gunman riddled Chamanpreet Singh alias Chini Kubaheri with a dozen bullets as he sat in his Toyota Fortuner in a parking lot.Only a few days ago, he had informed police about an extortion call from Bambiha gang for Rs 50 lakh and death threats. Chamanpreet, 31, was also locked in a property dispute say police, adding that he faced five FIRs, including one for attempted murder.The motive for his killing is unclear. The gunman and his getaway partner were yet to be identified or arrested at the time of filing this report. Gangster Lucky Patial took responsibility for the killing in a social media post but police are yet to confirm it.

Murder Caught On CCTVChamanpreet was leaving after a workout at a popular gym in Sector 9 when he was attacked.A 20-second CCTV footage shows him easing his black Fortuner into a parking space when his body suddenly starts jerking as bullets slam into him from the passenger-side window. A man wearing a full-face motorcycle helmet and clad in a red T-shirt is seen shooting at Chamanpreet.Mortally wounded, he struggles to open the driver side door and tries to get out, but the gunman runs around to face him and shoots him seven more times at point-blank range. Chamanpreet slumps over on the steering wheel. His foot seems to be on the gas peal as the SUV hurtles ahead in the final seconds of the video. Witnesses told police that the gunman hopped on a motorcycle and drove off with another man.

The murder happened in full public view and within earshot of hundreds of commuters. Two TOI reporters were passing by the same spot when they heard the staccato gunfire.A crowd gathered around the SUV and grisly pictures of the victim were swirling around on social media within minutes. Chamanpreet’s friends and some other persons took him to PGI in the blood-splattered SUV, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Around 10-11 bullets had struck his chest and abdomen.Gangster’s ClaimChandigarh, rattled by the shooting at PU in which sheer luck prevented casualties, is left shaken by the murder.Cops from Sector 3, 11, 17 police stations and teams of crime branch, operation cell, and District Crime Cell (DCC) rushed to the spot with a forensics team and cordoned off the area. SP-city K M Priyanka took charge of the investigation on scene. Police collected 12 shell casings and two intact bullets.Sector 3 police station has registered a case against unknown persons. Sources said the duo sped towards Landran in Mohali, and police teams were in pursuit.Chamanpreet was a resident of Kubaheri in Mullanpur. According to sources, he recently received an extortion call from Prince Chauhan, a Bambiha gang member.

Gangster Lucky Patial’s social media post, where he claimed responsibility for the murder, said: “He was an informant against our group. Understand this now, if our brothers’ information is given to enemies, we will take action. He was involved in the murder of Gurvinder in Mohali as well.” Gurvinder Singh alias Guri, an undertrial in a drugs case, was shot 17 times as he got into his car outside the District Administrative Complex in Mohali on Jan 28, 2026.Trail Of BulletsChamanpreet’s murder is the fourth shooting in the city in just three months this year, and follows the Dec 1, 2025, murder of Inderpreet Singh alias Parry, in Sector 26. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility for Parry’s killing.On Jan 16, 2026, bike-borne shooters fired five rounds outside a businessman’s bungalow in Sector 21, UT, at midnight. The next morning, he found a white slip near the gate, on which was written — “With Love From Mohabbat Randhawa And Pawan Shaukeen”.Police said that the same day, a 32-second call came on the businessman’s mobile from a foreign WhatsApp number. The caller, identifying himself as an aide of Doni Bal, Kaushal Chaudhary and the Bambiha gang, allegedly demanded Rs 5 crore. That night, two bikers fired gunshots at a pharmacy in Sector 32.
